How Noisy Is A Windturbine?

14 December, 2012

Aerotrope attended the EWEA Noise Workshop in Oxford this week. As engineering consultants we are often involved in the development of new turbine concepts. We also have direct experience of designing single-bladed turbines and  two bladed high tip-speed turbines, which are noisier than the 3-bladed concept.

This combined knowledge directly informs our advice to customers on wind turbine concept improvements. We are confident that we can answer questions and make accurate predictions in terms of performance and noise emission.

Here is an interesting article, asking questions such as: How do turbines made today compare to those made 10 years ago? What technological developments have taken place? How big is the noise challenge for wind farm designers?

Aerotrope also recently conducted research into infrasound creation, albeit for an Anish Kapoor art work. This enabled us to directly experiment with issues of infrasound noise and the effect it can have on humans.
