Sailrocket Smashes World Record!

16 November, 2012

Vestas Sailrocket 2 has smashed the outright world speed sailing record with a mighty 62.53 peak/ 59.23 knots average!  This figure comes to us live from speed spot in Walvis Bay and we expect that ratification by the WSSRC is a formality after a flawless run. What an indescribable feeling to be part of this team… right now we are speechless.

It looks like the fences added to the base-ventilated hydrofoil played a decisive part in finally allowing Sailrocket 2 to reach the speeds she is designed for. This video shows the 'lightbulb moment' when Chris Hornzee-Jones of Aerotrope presents his idea of modifying the foil,  which in turn the team in Walvis Bay were able to do instantly. A dynamic team that works well together is the basis for achieving outstanding results. Congratulations all around!
