Profile of Christopher Hornzee-Jones

Christopher Hornzee-Jones, the founder and director of Aerotrope, has been attracted to challenging projects since an early age and has an unusually diverse range of experience in design and engineering.

His early inspiration came from his grandfather Gordon Hornzee (1917 - ), also an engineer, pictured below left in 1948 with his own-designed and built pedal car, with which the family overcame the post-war shortage of fuel and travelled all over London.

As a teenager, Christopher recognised the urgent need for renewable energy technologies and has pursued them since through human, wind and solar-power projects. His work, in diverse fields, also springs from a fascination with the human potential for movement, both natural and enhanced by our creations.

After training in aeronautical engineering with British Aerospace and at Southampton University, he spent 5 years with SP Systems, including designing and developing the Lotus mountain bike. For the following 10 years, he has worked worldwide in the fields of wind turbines, artworks, advanced vehicles and architectural engineering.

In 2005 Christopher founded Aerotrope in Brighton in the UK, to enable larger projects to be undertaken with the support of a growing team of associates.
